Stronger

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…

The song is about a woman who’s left a relationship and finds herself stronger without him.

That’s not what draws me to the song – what draws me to the song is the chorus and the bridgWhat doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

Chorus:

What doesn’t kll you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone
What doesn’t kill you makes you fighter
Footsteps even lighter
Doesn’t mean I’m over ’cause you’re gone

Bridge:
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, stronger
Just me, myself and I
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone

Saturday mornings are my running mornings.  My friend Angie comes over and we go for a run.  The first “run” was actually a 5km walk in the snow (we started in winter :P).  The second “run” turned into Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown due to weather considerations.

Today, we ran.

She brought a stopwatch.  She basically pushed me to run.   30 seconds, rest a minute or two.  Run a minute, rest a minute or two.  I don’t know how she planned it or if it was just by the seat of her pants, but I ran today.  I ran uphill, downhill, further than I thought I could.

I wasn’t going for speed – I was going for consistency.

And I ran.

Me.   The woman who, from the age of 13 (that would be 26 years ago) said “I CAN’T RUN”  and failed grade 8 physical education twice for refusing to participate.

Me.  The woman who regained 10lbs and is sitting at 260lbs again.

Me.  The woman who has always said, “I have strength, but not endurance.”

Henry Ford said, “If you think you can do a thing, or you can’t do a thing – you’re right”

You know what?  For years, I’ve been right.  I couldn’t run.  I had no endurance.

Well (pardon my language here) FUCK THAT SHIT!

I can run. I have endurance. I have strength.  I CAN and WILL run the Sun Run, and the Loop the Lakes trail run.  I CAN and WILL live up to my roller derby name of Jezebelle Blue Bayou (blew by you) because I AM able to run, skate and move fast.

What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.

I am awesome like that.
