Health Benefits and Harmful Effects of White Sugar

I’m on a sugar detox and I decided to do some research on what is good about sugar (I’m talking white, refined sugar used in so many treats & coffee & other areas of life – not natural sugars in fruit and other whole foods)

So here’s what I found in a quick google search on the harmful effects of white sugar:

There’s a LOT of information (some of it repeats) about why sugar is bad for you.

So I did the same search – only looking for the health benefits:

There were a couple websites that touted the health benefits of sugar… but considering they were sugar based websites (http://www.sugarhistory.net/sugar-facts/health-benefits-of-sugar/) I don’t know how much I’m likely to believe what they have to say.  ESPECIALLY considering how much overwhelming evidence and information there is that contradict them.

One thing I know without a doubt: sugar is addictive.  Sugar makes my brain crawl when I deprive myself of it.   Sugar makes me cranky and sluggish and bloated and I feel like crap when I eat it, and then when I’m craving it.

So for the next 7 days.  One. simple. week.  I will not eat any refined white sugar or the foods that require it as an ingredient. The only sugar I will add to my diet is 2 teaspoons (measured) of coconut sugar to my morning coffee.

This is my own personal sugar challenge that I invite y’all to join me in.   One week.   No white, refined sugar.  No sugary treats.   Who’s in?
