Tonight we did a lot of drills. Lots of continual skating. You’d think, knowing my lack of cardio fitness, and my lack of endurance, that I’d hate this kind of practice.
No. This is the type of practice I LOVE.
I get that I’m not as fit as everyone else. So I work to my level. I do the drill, then take a break. I get back in there when I can breathe again. I do the next drill, take a break. Back in again when I can breathe.
We did squat drills. We did pacing lines. We did weaving drills. And the best.. we did pack drills.
Drill 1: Start at the back, make your way through the pack, and then hold at the front while everyone else does the same.
Drill 2: Start at the back, make your way through the pack, go around the track and catch up and then make your way through the pack again.
OMFG I loved it!!! I can’t wait until my cardio fitness catches up with my desire to play. I can’t wait until I can actually PLAY in a bout. I can’t wait. I really can’t.
I’m hoping we do more of those types of practices – AND that I can complete my skillz testing before Oct 1. I so badly want to play in that bout – moreso than I did before.
Tomorrow… hiking again 😀
